Finance, democratized.1
For thirteen years it was a sentence in a press release. As of this year it is a property of a deployment. $DEMOCRATIZE is the mission statement, compiled and shipped to Robinhood Chain, where the buy button has exactly one color.
Democratization involves risk, including the possibility that finance becomes democratized. Not investment advice. It is a sentence.
Fig. 1: both buttons, working. This is the innovation.
TBA. The sentence is still compiling.
We didn't write a whitepaper. Someone already wrote it in 2013.
Two Stanford graduates once wrote that they were on a mission to democratize finance for all. It is a good sentence. It appeared in app store descriptions, in an S-1 filing, on hoodies. It was quoted under oath. For thirteen years it did everything a sentence can do, which is to say: nothing.
We compiled it. $DEMOCRATIZE does not promise to democratize finance. It is finance, democratized: anyone can buy, anyone can sell, and there is no one to call about it. The whitepaper is one word long. You are reading it.
Full history of the sentenceOur company was founded on a simple idea: that our financial markets should be accessible to all. In an era of massive wealth inequality, we believe that it is more important than ever for people to have access to the markets. We're on a mission to democratize finance for all. We use technology to give people what they need to become investors...
TO BYTECODE
2026
In January 2021, the most important button in finance turned gray.
Position limits, it turned out, applied to democracy. The incident was resolved by everyone agreeing never to talk about it, constantly, forever.
This button is different. It lives on a permissionless chain. There is no admin panel behind it, no risk desk above it, and no 4 a.m. phone call that can change its color. Press it as many times as you like. We are legally required to inform you that we do not know how to stop you.
Fig. 2: the button. Note the absence of a gray state.
Your portfolio, handled by the world's most qualified professional: nobody.
Other platforms offer expert-managed portfolios that proactively adjust your investments. We offer something far more advanced, which is nothing. Your keys, your tokens, your consequences.
Citizens pay zero management fees on every dollar, at every tier, forever. This is not a promotion. It is a structural inability to charge you.
Terms apply. The terms are: there are no terms.
| Management fee | $0.00 |
| Monthly subscription | $0.00 |
| Account minimum | none, there are no accounts |
| Payment for order flow | nobody to pay |
| Trading halts, annualized | 0 |
| Buy button uptime | 100% |
| Support wait time | n/a, see note2 |
The polls never close.
Buy, sell, transfer. Any hour, any day. There is no opening bell, no closing bell, no bell of any kind. As of right now, the polls remain open.
The buy button cannot be disabled
We checked. Then we checked again. There is no gray state in the contract, and no one with the keys to add one.
No position limits
Buy one. Buy a million. The protocol does not know who you are, and has elected to keep it that way.
No support ticket required
There is no support, which means there is nothing to wait for. Average resolution time: instant, because nothing can break in your favor or against it.
Open around the clock
The chain does not sleep, observe holidays, or testify before Congress. It is available on days ending in y.
The sentence is written
"We're on a mission to democratize finance for all." Everyone agrees it is a good sentence.
The sentence tours the world
Press releases. App store descriptions. An S-1 filing. Congressional testimony. Hoodies. It remains, at all times, a sentence.
The sentence is tested in production
It fails. The buy button turns gray. Democracy, it turns out, had position limits.
The infrastructure catches up
Robinhood ships a chain. Permissionless. No button to disable, no ticket to ignore. For the first time, the infrastructure matches the sentence.
The sentence is compiled
$DEMOCRATIZE ships the mission statement to mainnet. Anyone can buy. Anyone can sell. Nobody can turn it off. What the sentence promised, the deployment enforces.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a sentence.
Is Democratize affiliated with Robinhood?
No. Democratize is not affiliated with Robinhood Markets, Inc., its subsidiaries, or its buy button. Democratize is affiliated with the sentence.
Can trading be halted?
We are legally required to inform you that we do not know how.
What is the utility?
The utility is that nobody can stop you from trading it. In January 2021 that turned out to be worth quite a lot.
What does the token democratize, exactly?
Itself. Democratization begins at home.
Who is in charge?
Nobody, which is the correct number of people to be in charge of a democracy.
